Our Rules

At The Jedi Academy, every visitor, potential member and current member is expected to abide by the community guidelines that we have established.

These rules are designed to create a respectful, safe and engaging environment for everyone and thus your cooperation is essential.

Please take the time to read and fully understand these rules. Failure to adhere to them, especially repeated violations, will result in consequences as determined by our community moderators.

Your commitment to following these guidelines ensures that The Jedi Academy remains a welcoming and supportive space for all.

Code of Conduct

The following outlines the expectations of visitors, allies and members of the Discord-server, the in-game guild and our premises; Jedi Cruiser Serenity, and The Jedi Academy on Dac.

I. Respect

Respect is the foundation upon which The Jedi Academy is built. We welcome members of all backgrounds, cultures, nationalities, ages and levels of experience. We are committed to fostering a community where every individual is treated with dignity, fairness, respect and courtesy.

Discrimination, hate speech, harassment, bullying or any behaviour intended to intimidate, alienate or offend another member or close ally will not be tolerated. This includes conduct directed towards an individual on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, political belief or any other personal characteristic.

The Academy is an international roleplay community where English is the official language of communication across all of the Academy’s platforms. Using a common language ensures that conversations remain accessible and inclusive to the wider community.

Members are expected to respect the responsibilities entrusted to the Jedi Council and Academy leadership. The Council exists to uphold the Academy’s standards, maintain a fair and welcoming environment and resolve disputes when necessary. Questions or concerns regarding moderation or disciplinary decisions should be raised respectfully through the appropriate channels rather than through public confrontation.

Personal disputes should remain private and must never interfere with the wider community. The malicious sharing or distribution of private conversations, images, videos or other personal material relating to another member is strictly prohibited. Where personal disagreements begin to affect the Academy, the Jedi Council should be informed so that the matter may be addressed fairly, discreetly and with respect for all parties involved.

II. Harassment

The Academy is committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for every member. Harassment, intimidation or any behaviour intended to make another member feel uncomfortable, unsafe or unwelcome has no place within the community.

These standards apply equally to all in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) interactions. Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

Repeatedly contacting or mentioning another member after they have expressed disinterest or ceased responding.

Ignoring personal boundaries, social cues or direct requests to disengage.

Pressuring another member into conversation, friendship, roleplay or personal interaction against their wishes.

Intimidating, manipulating, threatening or otherwise attempting to coerce another member.

Members are expected to respect the personal boundaries of others at all times. If another member declines interaction, expresses discomfort or chooses not to engage; that decision must be respected without question.

III. Sexual Harassment

Romantic, flirtatious, or intimate interactions, whether in-character (IC) or out-of-character (OOC), must always be based upon clear, mutual, and ongoing consent.

The following behaviour is strictly prohibited:

Initiating romantic or intimate roleplay without the prior out-of-character consent of all participants.

Sending unsolicited flirtatious, suggestive or sexually explicit messages

Making inappropriate or invasive comments regarding another member’s appearance, voice, personality or private life.

Continuing romantic, flirtatious or sexual advances after they have been declined, ignored or otherwise not reciprocated

Asking invasive personal questions or sharing intimate information that causes another member discomfort.

Consent may be withdrawn at any time. If another member expresses discomfort, declines participation or does not provide clear consent then the interaction must end immediately.

The Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and sexual harassment. All reports will be treated with extreme seriousity and handled confidentially whenever possible. It will be reviewed fairly by the Jedi Council.

Serious or repeated violations may result in temporarily suspension or permanent removal from The Jedi Academy.

IV. Activity

The Academy recognizes that real life will always take priority over roleplay. While there are no strict activity requirements; members are expected to remain reasonably active or communicate with the Jedi Council if they anticipate an extended absence.

Members who expect to be inactive for a prolonged period should notify the Jedi Council through the designated ⁠"Council Requests" channel on Discord. This allows the Academy to distinguish between a temporary leave of absence and an unannounced departure from the community.

Should a member become inactive without prior notice, the Jedi Council may contact them privately to determine whether they intend to remain a member of the Academy. These inquiries are made to maintain an accurate roster while ensuring members are given every reasonable opportunity to return before further action is taken.

If a member does not respond within a reasonable period, the Jedi Council may remove them from the Academy’s active roster. Such decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, taking individual circumstances into consideration and always with the intention of preserving an active and engaged community.

The Academy values communication above activity. Members are never discouraged from prioritizing their personal lives, education, careers or family commitments. A simple notification of absence is all that is expected.

V. Resignation and Reapplication

Members who wish to resign from the Academy are asked to notify the Jedi Council through the designated ⁠"Council Requests" channel on Discord. While not required, doing so allows the Council to update the Academy’s records and ensures a respectful departure from the community.

Former members are always welcome to return to the Academy. Applications to rejoin will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the member’s previous conduct, length of absence and the circumstances surrounding their departure.

Returning members may, where appropriate, resume their previous character. However, following an extended absence, the Jedi Council may require members to create a new character or undergo a period of reintegration to ensure both the player and their character are appropriately reintroduced to the Academy and its ongoing Role-Play.

The rank granted upon rejoining is determined solely by the Jedi Council. Previous ranks, responsibilities, or positions of leadership do not automatically carry over and may be subject to review. Particular consideration will be given to positions of significant responsibility, such as Jedi Master or membership of the Jedi Council.

Where applicable, additional requirements relating to character progression, experience or Academy records are outlined separately within the relevant sections of the handbook.

VI. Rejoining Anonymously

The Academy recognizes that some former members may wish to return anonymously thus allowing them to begin a new chapter without their previous characters or out-of-character identity being widely known. When used appropriately, anonymous rejoining can encourage fresh roleplay opportunities and allow members to establish new stories on their own merits.

Members wishing to return anonymously should inform the Jedi Council before rejoining the Academy. This allows the Council to maintain accurate administrative records while respecting the privacy of a member.

Anonymous rejoining is intended to enhance roleplay, not to deceive or manipulate the community. Members must not use anonymity to target specific individuals, avoid accountability, create false out-of-character identities or otherwise gain an unfair advantage over other members.

Likewise, members of the Academy are expected to respect another person’s decision to remain anonymous. Attempts to pressure, investigate or publicly reveal the identity of another member are inappropriate and should be reported to the Jedi Council if they become disruptive.

The Jedi Council reserves the right to revoke anonymous status where it is found to be misused or contrary to the interests of the Academy.

Role-Playing Conduct

The Jedi Academy exists to create immersive, collaborative and long-term Role-Playing experiences.

Every story, lesson, mission and conversation contributes to a shared narrative that continues to grow through the creativity of its members.

While no collection of rules can anticipate every situation, the following principles represent the standards expected of all Role-Play conducted

within The Jedi Academy.

I. Collaborative Storytelling

Role-Playing is a collaborative form of storytelling rather than an individual performance.

Members are encouraged to create stories together, allowing every participant the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the scene. No character should consistently dominate events or become the centre of every narrative. The strongest Role-Play emerges when every participant is given the opportunity to develop, succeed, fail and grow alongside one another.

Members should therefore approach role-play with the intention of building stories together rather than seeking personal victories.

II. Character Progression

The Jedi Academy places significant emphasis upon realistic character progression.

Every Jedi begins their journey with potential rather than mastery. Knowledge, experience, promotions and responsibilities should be earned naturally through continued Role-Play participation and personal development.

Characters are encouraged to possess strengths as well as weaknesses. Failure, uncertainty and personal challenges often create far more compelling stories than constant success.

III. In-Character and Out-of-Character Knowledge

Members are expected to maintain a clear distinction between In-Character (IC) and Out-of-Character (OOC) knowledge.

Information learned through Discord, the website, private conversations or other Out-of-Character sources should not automatically become knowledge possessed by a character.

Likewise, disagreements occurring between characters should never become personal disagreements between players.

Separating IC and OOC knowledge preserves immersion and ensures fair, enjoyable role-play for everyone.

IV. Respecting Other Characters

Every member retains ownership over their own character.

No member may determine another character's thoughts, emotions, injuries or actions without the player's consent. Similarly, permanent consequences (including severe injuries, capture or death) should never be imposed upon another character without prior agreement or the involvement of appropriate Academy staff where necessary.

Role-Play should always remain a collaborative experience built upon mutual respect.

V. Role-Play Conduct

Members are expected to Role-Play in a manner consistent with both the Star Wars universe and the values of The Jedi Academy.

Characters should behave in ways appropriate to their background, experience and current rank within The Jedi Academy. While creativity is strongly encouraged, members should avoid actions that significantly disrupt immersion or undermine the collaborative nature of the setting.

Whenever uncertainty arises, members are encouraged to discuss scenes Out-of-Character before continuing.

VI. Continuity

Actions have consequences.

The Jedi Academy encourages long-term storytelling where lessons, missions, friendships and important events continue to shape both individual characters and the wider community.

Members are therefore expected to respect established continuity and avoid disregarding significant Role-Play without good reason. Should continuity become unclear or conflicting, The Jedi Council may assist in reaching a fair resolution.

VII. The Spirit of Role-Play

No written rule can replace good judgement.

Members are encouraged to approach every Role-Play with patience, flexibility and a willingness to support the stories of others. Sometimes allowing another character to shine creates a far more memorable experience than seeking the spotlight oneself.

The purpose of Role-Play within The Jedi Academy is not to determine who possesses the strongest Jedi, but to create meaningful stories, lasting friendships and memorable experiences that continue long after a single mission has concluded.

Character Creation

Every memorable story begins with a memorable character.

Within The Jedi Academy, character creation is viewed as the foundation upon which every future Role-Playing experience is built. A well-written character is not defined by extraordinary abilities or an impressive history, but by their personality, aspirations, flaws and potential for growth.

The Jedi Academy encourages members to create characters who feel believable within both the Star Wars universe and the Academy itself. While creativity is strongly encouraged, characters should be written with the understanding that they are beginning a journey—not concluding one.

The following principles outline the standards expected when creating a character for the Academy.

I. Original Characters

The Academy is dedicated to original storytelling.

Members are expected to create original characters rather than portraying established characters from Star Wars canon or Legends. This allows every member the opportunity to contribute something unique while ensuring that the Academy's stories remain their own.

Characters may naturally draw inspiration from existing Star Wars media, provided they remain original in both identity and personality.

II. Potential, Not Perfection

Every Jedi begins with potential.

Characters should not begin their journey as legendary duelists, renowned heroes, accomplished scholars or masters of the Force. They are students who have much to learn and many mistakes yet to make.

The Academy believes that gradual development creates more rewarding Role-Play than immediate competence.

Members are therefore encouraged to leave room for their characters to evolve naturally through lessons, missions and personal experiences.

III. Strengths and Weaknesses

Every character should possess both strengths and weaknesses.

Flaws are not obstacles to Role-Play but rather opportunities for meaningful character development.

Whether a character struggles with confidence, patience, fear, arrogance or self-doubt, these challenges often create the most memorable stories.

Perfect characters rarely grow.

Believable characters always do.

IV. Consistency

Characters should remain consistent with their established personality, background and experiences.

While people naturally change over time, significant changes should occur through role-play rather than appearing without explanation.

Growth is encouraged.

Contradiction without purpose is not.

V. Respecting the Setting

Characters should be appropriate for both the Old Republic era and the Academy's established lore.

Members are expected to respect the Academy's documented history, traditions and Role-Playing setting. Characters should complement the shared world rather than contradict it.

Any significant departures from established lore should be discussed with the Jedi Council before being introduced.

VI. Character Knowledge

A character only knows what they have reasonably learned.

Members should avoid granting their characters knowledge, abilities or experiences they could not realistically possess based upon their background and training.

Likewise, knowledge obtained through out-of-character sources should not automatically become part of a character's understanding.

VII. Character Progression

Character progression occurs through Role-Play.

Promotions, responsibilities, specialised Paths and recognition are earned through participation, personal development and continued involvement within the Academy.

Members are encouraged to enjoy the journey rather than focusing solely upon advancement.

VIII. Multiple Characters

Members wishing to maintain multiple characters should ensure that each possesses a distinct personality, purpose and role within The Jedi Academy.

Additional characters should enrich the community rather than dividing a member's attention or disrupting ongoing Role-Play.

The Jedi Council reserves the right to review or limit multiple active characters where necessary to preserve continuity and community balance.

IX. Collaboration

Character creation should never occur in isolation.

Members are encouraged to speak with experienced players, mentors and the Jedi Council while developing their ideas.

Questions are always welcome, and guidance is freely offered to ensure that every new character feels at home within The Jedi Academy's setting.

Creating a character is not simply the beginning of an individual's story. It is the beginning of a shared story that will continue to grow alongside the journeys of countless other Jedi.

X. Final Thoughts

A memorable character is not remembered because they were the strongest.

They are remembered because they changed.

The Jedi Academy encourages every member to create characters capable of learning, failing, questioning, growing and inspiring others through their journey.

After all, becoming a Jedi is not about where your story begins.

It is about who you become along the way.
