Biography

Ilvaen Voliic, born in the crowded mid-levels of Coruscant, the third child of a family of mid-tier maintenance technicians who kept the planet-wide city’s infrastructure humming. Life in the endless urban sprawl was noisy, impersonal, and often dangerous. Gang skirmishes, power failures, and the distant rumble of Senate politics shaped his early years.

As a boy, Ilvaen was quiet and observant, often escaping the family hab-unit to explore abandoned service tunnels and derelict sub-levels. It was there that his Force sensitivity first manifested in subtle ways: instinctively avoiding collapsing walkways and reacting to eerie sensations.

He had no grand destiny or exotic heritage, a mere kid who felt out of place in the galaxy’s bustling heart. Jedi recruiters discovered him during a routine Temple outreach program after he unintentionally used the Force to push a plastic bag.

And he was brought into the Order.

The transition was difficult. Ilvaen missed the chaotic familiarity of Coruscant’s underbelly and struggled with the Temple’s rigid structure. He was not a natural prodigy with a lightsaber; his early training was marked by clumsy footwork and hesitation in sparring sessions.

Instructors appreciated his keen situational awareness and empathy for civilians but worried about his tendency to overanalyze threats, sometimes freezing when immediate action was required. Time passed.

Assigned as Padawan to Master Soryn Vell, a battle-hardened Jedi in his later years, Ilvaen entered a rocky relationship defined by friction and demanding respect. Vell had lost his previous apprentice in the chaos preceding the Great Galactic War and approached mentoring with a no-nonsense, “the galaxy doesn’t wait for perfection” attitude.

Their early missions focused on Coruscant’s lower levels and nearby Republic worlds: investigating smuggling rings with suspected Imperial ties, aiding refugee convoys, and recovering minor artifacts.

Disagreements were common. Ilvaen's street-honed caution often clashed with Vell’s decisive style. On a mission to a contested mining colony, Ilvaen's insistence on gathering more intelligence delayed their response to an Imperial raid.

The delay allowed civilians to evacuate but cost critical data and earned Ilvaen a sharp rebuke. Another incident nearly ended them both: ambushed by mercenaries, Ilvaen took a blaster wound covering Vell’s flank.

The injury left a lasting scar across his ribs. In the aftermath, Vell admitted his own impulsiveness had contributed to the vulnerability, while Ilvaen learned that calculated risks were sometimes necessary.

Over several years of joint operations, escorting diplomats through hostile space, disrupting pirate operations, and providing relief in war-torn sectors, their bond strengthened into one of mutual reliance.

Vell taught Ilvaen practical combat application and the value of decisive leadership. Ilvaen helped temper Vell’s cynicism with grounded empathy drawn from his Coruscanti roots.

Failures weighed heavily on Ilvaen: a botched negotiation that escalated tensions on a neutral world, or a reconnaissance mission where his hesitation allowed a target to escape.

These moments kept him humble and self-critical, far from the archetype of an effortless individual.

Recommended by Master Vell, Ilvaen faced the Trials of Knighthood on Tython amid rising galactic tensions. His superiors viewed him as capable but unproven in raw conviction. He undertook the traditional five trials with mixed results that highlighted his growth through imperfection.
